All FFXIV users are familiar with the importance of dyes. These are an integral part of any character’s outlook. Be it for your character’s fashion report or simply your character plate. These are pivotal to all FFXIV player’s armor.  

Here are the number of dye recipes you have access to:

  • There are around 35 dye recipes
  • About a third of these dyes requires a Disciples of the Hand (DoHs) level 30 or more

Keep in mind these tips when crafting dyes:

  • Search for a specific dye using Ctrl+F. Some dyes are placed in a special category at the end of the list.
  • Some dyes are listed as purchasable to NPCs. A specific example of that is Unsynrael in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (X: 6 Y: 12.3).

How Do I Dye Items in FFXIV?

Dyeing items in FFXIV is straightforward and easy to learn, making it an excellent way to spruce up your character’s wardrobe. Whether you want to look your best while tackling tough challenges or just want to show off your style, dyeing your items is a great way to achieve your goals.

To dye items in FFXIV:

  1. Right-click the item in your inventory that you want to dye. Tap X if you are using a controller.
  2. From the sub-command menu, select ‘Dye’. If you do not see ‘Dye’, that item cannot be dyed.
  3. From the pop-up modal, you can preview different dyes including dyes you do not own. Select a dye that you own that does not have a red ‘X’.
  4. Click ‘Dye’.

Where Can I Buy Dye in FFXIV?

In FFXIV, there are several common NPC vendors you can visit to purchase dye for your gear and equipment. These vendors can be found in various cities and towns throughout the game world, and they offer a wide selection of dyes in different colors and shades.

What is the Cost of Buying Dyes?

You can purchase dyes from various vendors throughout the game, including some merchants in the main cities, as well as from the market board. The price of dyes on the market board can fluctuate depending on supply and demand, so it’s worth shopping around to find the best deal.

Can I Craft a Dye in FFXIV?

Yes, you can. Crafting dyes is different from other types of crafting.

To craft, you need to complete the lvl 15 Color Your World quest. To craft higher-level dyes, you must be level 30 or above in any Disciples of the Hand (DoH) class. Find the special dyes in a separate section in the Crafting Log, under ‘Special Recipes.’

How Do I Unlock the Ability to Craft Dye?

To unlock the ability to craft dye, you must complete the level 15 quest, Color Your World. This is an easy quest that shouldn’t take more than a few minutes.

To complete the Color Your World quest that will allow you to craft dyes:

  1. Speak to Sweigym in Western Thanalan near the plaza of Vesper Bay (X:12 Y:13). Sweigym requests for Orange Juice.
  2. Purchase Orange Juice from the local Merchant & Mender in Western Thanalan (x25.6,y24.1).
  3. Complete the quest by going back to Sweigym.
